If you are looking for something fun to do this summer in your garden, why not think about turning your garden into your very own sporting arena? We all know how much children look forward to their schools sports day, so why not bring this fun home to them as well?
You can choose to have your sports day activities just with your family or you may want to invite some of your children’s friends over for the day (that’s if your garden is big enough!)
You should start preparing for the sports day activities the day before the occasion, get your children making some medals from some card, foil and ribbons, this will make the whole day so much more interesting,
The different games you can play include:
Egg and Spoon Race
The egg and spoon race is one of the most popular sports day activities, if you have not got the time to boil up some eggs you can instead use a small potato. The rules of this game is if someone drops the potato/egg before they get to the finish line they must start from the beginning again.
Over and Under
This game will only really work if you have quite a few people participating, you should get your competitors to line up in two separate teams. The aim of the game is to pass a ball under the legs of the first person, then the next person passes it over their head and so on until it reaches the back of the line. When the end person gets the ball, they must run to the start and do the whole process again. To win the first person must end up at the back of the line.
Obstacle Race
You should create an obstacle race that will keep your children laughing for hours; you will have to be inventive with your house hold items to come up with the obstacles. This can include a coffee table for crawling under, an old duvet with both ends open to crawl through, a ball pit to crawl through or collect a certain colour ball to pass to the next part. Hula hoops to jump through etc.
Tower Challenge
You should collect some old cardboard boxes and ask both teams to create the biggest tower possible. You should give each team one minute to form the biggest tower.
Welly Throwing
As long as you have enough space, you should maybe create a welly throwing event. If you do not have enough room you should maybe come up with a safer event such as throwing a tennis ball into a target area.
