With changing times, science has made great advancements. In the early 1900s, electricity was not readily available. Now we use it for operating even the smallest devices.
If you use electricity as a heating aid in your home, then you are surely paying a lot of money and let?s not forget the pollution caused because of its excessive use. Although, electric heaters can heat areas of all sizes; from a small room in the house to a big building, they can be expensive. To save money and energy one can use different methods.
Heating only those rooms that are occupied
If you are not using a central heating unit, then switch the heat on only in the room(s) that is/are being used. There is no need to heat the rooms not being used. With central heating it is best to have the zonal heating option. This will again allow the rooms that are occupied to be heated and lower the heat in the vacant rooms automatically with a setback thermostat.
Insulation
Having a house or building that is fully insulated helps keep the house cool in summer and warm in winter. Keeping your house properly insulated is important. Even the smallest gaps can cause air leaks and prevent the house from getting warm properly. When you have this type of installation in your home, you do not have to turn the heat up and you also do not require keeping it on 24/7.
Wearing warm clothes inside
Keeping your body warm by wearing sweaters and other warm clothes is more economical than keeping the whole house heated. When you are in the house try wearing a nice warm sweater instead of wearing only a sweater shirt. Don?t forget to put socks on your feet!
Radiative Heating
At times there are places in your house that are not insulated properly. To avoid turning the heat up in the rest of the house, it is best to use a Radiative heater. These heaters are small and have harmless radiation and instead of warming the air, the radiation warms every thing it touches, thus it keeps your body and the objects nearby warm.
Heat pumps
These heaters have to be by far the best option to save money and energy. They use almost 50 percent less power than normal heaters and are also environment friendly. How does this genius invention work? It takes warm air from outside and heats the inside of the building. Before, these heating units could be used only in places that did not have temperatures going below freezing. However, the newer versions have started to resolve this issue also. So they are an effective and affordable way to warm your home up.

Allan love discussing environment related issues and especially how to save energy with electric heaters and home appliances. Since he started blogging, Allan has published articles in several blogs and websites. He hopes to publish many more!

When saving money and watching what you spend can be hard when your friends are not on the same path. I have many friends and it amazes me that they all fall into some kind of category along with a certain personality type.

What kind of friends do you have and do they cost you money?

It’s not nice to categorize your friends and it is a bit like numbering them, but lets see which category your friends fall into.

Whinging friend

These type of friends are always hanging around whinging about how broke they are, trying to get someone to say, “don’t worry I’ll pay” Don’t fall for it. They are constantly trying to make people feel sorry for them. Get a job you bludger! There are plenty of ways to earn money. How about buying and selling junk? No? Beneath you hey? You would rather whinge!

Stingy friend

Won’t ever really fork out for anything. The one that seems to always fall through the cracks. When you out in a group they always get paid for or shouted by one person or another. Then the next thing you know they have a new $800 mobile phone. They have no problem with people paying for them, and will never offer to pay you back. They will just say thank you.. They think that is enough.

Shopaholic friend

Steer clear of this friend if you are trying to save money. They will entice you to go out to lunch or on a shopping spree and you will end up spending money. This disease is catchy, because it can be fun to spend money. Shopaholic also like to convince everyone around them to spend money too. This way they won’t be the only one.

Party animal friend

Happy go lucky person that seems to be having a full time holiday and party. As long as you only associate with this friend every so often, there shouldn’t be a problem. This friend doesn’t care whether you have money or not. They live for the day.

Al cheapo friend

This is the guy that comes to your house for a few beers but only brings one and stays till stumps. Then he comes around for a BBQ, brings sausages to contribute, and comes back to next day to pick up the ones that weren’t used. This guy also freezes his own ice in old ice cream containers and owns his own house.

The look good friend

This friend has to look good and spends most of their time by not only keeping up with the Jones’s but completely outdoing them altogether. This can get very exhausting when you have a friend like this..It is really hard to keep up with the latest and greatest phase they are going through.

Wheeler and Dealer

My friend Darryl is a wheeler and dealer and finds the most amazing bargains. It is almost like he sniffs them out. It often makes everyone jealous to see the bargains he gets, but then he tries to sell it to all his friends at double the price. We all know he has paid practically nothing for it, but we just shake our head, because that’s just Darryl. I always said that his hobby of “ripping his friends off” could easily turn into a business.

Unselfish friend

This friend will always give more than they will ever take. If you give them a cup of tea, they will give you two back. If you are like this and you have a friend the same, you will never have a problem. This person values your friendship and would never want to cost you money.

Which friend are you? I must confess I am a Shopaholic, party animal, unselfish friend.

Whether you’re broke college student, a struggling mom, or just a person who’s is trying to make, you’re always looking for ways to save money. Here are ten more wacky ways to help you save money:

Don’t go out of the house. This leaves no temptation to make purchases or spend money on car maintenance and insurance. More reasonably, you can make fewer trips which will, at least, save you money on gas.

Stop watching movies at the theater. Watch movies at home with microwavable popcorn to give you more of the theater feel. Don’t pay for cable. Get movies from Netflix instead. Better yet, rent movies from the library for free.

Eat at someone else’s house. It doesn’t cost you anything when you’re eating up someone else’s food. Every time a family member or friend says that they’re cooking, head out the door and start mooching.

Reduce you cell phone plan. If you’re still stuck in the stone ages and own a landline, get rid of it. Instead, stick with a basic cell phone plan. Take only incoming calls and only allow emergency outgoing calls. On the other hand, getting rid of incoming calls all together sounds better. You’ll save money while not having to worry about any more annoying telemarketers.

Only order appetizers at restaurants. Just ordering a salad is even better. For a drink, ask for water with a lemon. Using the sugar packets on the table, make you own free lemonade. Forget the appetizer and salad and just snack on the complimentary rolls for an entirely free meal

Add water to your conditioner. When the contents of your conditioner get to the bottom, just add a little water and shake it up. Get your money’s worth by using EVERY last drop. You can apply the same method to lotion.

Never buy shampoo or soap every again. You don’t have to smell to save money. Snatch the shampoo and soap from hotels.

Pick change up from the ground. Collect change from the beach, inside your couch or wherever you can find change. Put it in a piggy bank. When the piggy bank gets full, take to a bank and deposit it in a savings account.

Use deodorant every other day. If you’re not doing any hard labor and you’re not sweating, you really don’t need to use it every day. Cutting down your usage will make the product last twice as long.

Barter. They do it China. People don’t realize they can barter certain items like shoes and jewelry in America but you can if the salesman receives commission. Barter everything you possibly can from child care to medical insurance.

In this day in time, you got to survive any way you can by inventing ways to save. You’ll be flabbergasted by how much can save over the course of the year just by trying a few things off of this list.

We all love brand spanking new stuff, but we can’t all afford it. So if your credit card is almost at its limit, and

the money in your account is running out, then its obvious that you will need to stop spending.

If you really need the necessities, like a fridge or washing machine, then I suggest you buy them second hand.

Buying a new fridge on credit is going to cost top dollar, plus interest charged on your credit card. Admittedly

second hand won’t look as good as new, but the minute you walk out of the store with your new fridge it

becomes second hand anyway. So try looking around for a second hand fridge that is in great working order

and looks in a reasonable condition. Your visitors won’t even notice, so its pointless trying to impress them.

Its easy to become dazzled by a good salesman, but buying within your means will give you a lot more peace of

mind.

If you are strapped for money, try shopping in one of the charity shops. You would be amazed at the quality

and price of some of the clothes. No-one will know where you bought your outfits. The clothes are still

fashionable, because some people who donate to charities, like my sister for instance, wear their clothes for 3

months, become bored with them, and give them away to charities. I am sure there are plenty of well off

people out there, who have more money than sense, and pay exorbitant prices for clothes with a brand name,

and then get sick of them after a few months and donate them to charity.

Second hand clothing

All it takes is a bit of spare time to sort through the clothes and find something you like. My 9 year old son

bought me a $3.50 blouse for Christmas at a Charity Shop and I loved it and wear it all the time. It had a brand

name and looked new, and I have had a number of compliments when I wear it. My son was very proud of

himself that he had found such a good bargain.

I also have a friend who always looks stunning and when I asked her where she buys her clothes, you guessed

it, she said from Charity Shops.

So why not go into the Charity Shops like St Vincent De Paul or Life Line and see for yourself. They don’t just

sell clothes, they sell furniture, books, toys, cutlery and crockery, etc. You can save yourself a heap of money

and plus its beneficial to you and the wider community who may need help desperately.

Everywhere you go, there are temptations waving in your face making it sometimes very hard to resist an un-wanted purchase. You are literally surrounded with advertisements and gimmicks that try to entice you to spend more money.

Holiday season spending

The biggest and most advertised temptations are the special occasions that were originally invented to entice people to buy items. Christmas, Easter, Fathers Day, Mothers day, and Valentines Day are just a few I can recall. I am not saying that they are not celebrating worthy causes, however are they necessary. Most people feel obligated to buy Christmas presents for more than just their family. And now days the gifts people give are not small either.

On Sale or a gimmick?

Sometimes, if you research your product, an item that says it is on special, isn’t actually a bargain at all. There is a huge sign saying that it has been reduced by 50%..People instantly ask themselves in their mind…”hmmm do I need one of those, because it is so cheap now, and won’t be the same price tomorrow.” Have you ever said that to yourself?

The supermarket isle.

Supermarket isles are stuffed with special price tags which over exaggerate how much you actually save. There are also items placed around and at the checkouts to satisfy your last minute impulse buying. Sometimes you can’t help but spend more money by purchasing a little magazine or maybe some breath mints. And those of us with children, it can become a nightmare to get your child to pass these items without wanting something.

How big are the shopping carts and trolly’s?

Big shopping carts are now in all the big department stores that sell everything from electrical to clothing and underwear. They are definitely there to entice you to spend more money, as some people do almost feel guilty for not filling it up with items. What are they implying?

Cash is available 24-7

Gone are the days, when you used to have to wait for the bank to open to get your money. Automatic Teller Machines scattered on the streets, in the shops and even the pubs, make it very easy to grab that extra bit of cash when needed. How easy is it to buy what ever you want and pay with a credit card or debit card. Who needs to have cash in their pocket when almost everyone has a card of some sort.

No wonder people spend more money than they have. I hope these simple facts will help you realise that you may not need what you are buying. Open your eyes to these misconceptions and you will save money easily.

Most of us don’t realize how much money we throw out the window on a daily basis. If we could just change a few of our daily habits and combine that with some effort, then we could watch our savings increase significantly. Too many people don’t realize that you can turn your financial situation around by simply making the decision to do so. If you’re in a pinch, then here are five money saving ideas that will help you to start saving money today:

1. Give up your vices.

Habits are very expensive to keep. Whether it’s alcohol, cigarettes, sweets, or fast food, it’s time to kick the habit. Giving up your vices provides instant savings and could even improve your health both mentally and physically.

2. Carpool.

There’s a carpool lane for this reason. If someone you work with lives close to you, then why not ride work together and alternate who drives? This can also be an asset when taking your kids to school. If your neighborhood’s kids go to the same school as yours, then why not get together with your neighborhood and switch out who takes both kids to school? You’re not only saving yourself money and time, but you’re also helping someone else to save.

image: http://www.joe-ks.com/

3. Invest in a bike.

It’s fun, gets you in shape, and saves you some serious money on gas and upkeep. Riding your bike instead of driving your car everywhere will save you enough money by the end of the year to start a nice nest egg. You could even cancel your monthly gym membership for double the savings.

4. Make everything you possibly can.

You can make anything from soaps and scrubs to candles and cookies at home. Homemade items are deemed as being from the heart so this makes them great gifts. If you don’t already know how to crochet and sew, then there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube that will teach you how. Whenever a piece of clothing rips or a button pops off repair it rather than just throwing it away. Additionally, make all your gifts and decorations. Wreaths and ornaments are cheap and easy to make. Buy yarn for $5 to crochet a toboggan with a scarf instead of buying it in a store for $20.

5. Never purchase an item at full value.

There are lots of ways to get what you need for cheap and sometimes even free. If you need new furniture, then just take a drive around the neighborhood. Often people will set brand new items on the curb as trash which allows you to get nice furniture for free. The next place you need to look is on eBay and on craigslist. Craigslist even has a section where people post up free stuff and tell you to come pick it up. There’s a plethora of high quality items that you can buy on craigslist for a very affordable price. Second hand stores are also gold mines. On a good day, you can purchase several items for the price of one in a regular store.

Carrying out a business meeting abroad is sometimes a necessary step to winning that crucial business deal but the cost can often mount to thousands of pounds especially when a few people are taking part in the meeting. Video conferencing provides a cheaper alternative to travelling and although it has been around for a while, it is now gaining widespread adoption due many video conferencing experts such as Lifesize now offering HD (High definition) video conferencing solutions which provides a crisp and clear picture making it feel like you are actually in the same room as the other person.

Save money with video conferencing

The cost of video conferencing is normally less than that of a flight to a neighbouring American state which means that you can speak to anyone wherever they may be whether it is for a business meeting or just a casual meeting with a friend and your only expense will be your electricity and internet bill. You can also save money on accommodation costs as you can take part in a video conferencing meeting whilst at the office or at the comfort of your own home.

Extra benefits when video conferencing

In addition to this, everything discussed during a video conferencing meetings are recorded and preserved by the videoconferencing system which not on only provides peace of mind but it also shaves a bit more off of your expenses by eliminating the need to purchase paper to record what was discussed in the meeting.

This may be somewhat of a niche market but Doctors can now significantly increase the number patients that they can treat by setting up a Telehealth practice. The fact that that doctors have a much wider patient list at their disposal means that they can make more money but they can also treat more people as well as treat those who may not have access to a doctor such as those who are unfortunate enough to live in a third world country. Further to this, doctors won’t even need to travel to their workplace anymore as they would now be able to see their patients from the comfort of their own home with their feet up and a cup of coffee in their hand.

It is clear that video conferencing can be a real money saving solution for many of us but if you are still not convinced then video conferencing brings with it many other advantages as well.

3 benefits to video conferencing

Increase productivity – There is no waiting around for visas, passports and flight tickets to be arranged which means that you can have a video conferencing meeting more or less whenever and wherever you want. This ultimately allows meetings to take place earlier and business deals to be closed quicker

Help the environment – A flight from Los Angeles to Sydney will use 6.64 metric tons of carbon which is almost a third of what an average US household uses in a whole year. Switching to video conferencing will help you reduce your carbon footprint which will help the environment as well getting environmentalists off your back.

Improve customer service - With video conferencing being so easy to set up, why not use video conferencing for even small meetings where you would normally call your client over the phone. This will make your clients/customers feel that you care about them and everybody knows the benefits of keepi9ng your customers happy.

As you can see it is obvious that you definitely will save money with video conferencing.

Saving money and financial management is very crucial in one’s life. Money is very important in order to survive in this world but only a few people know how to manage their household budget properly. Many people have a hard time saving money even if it is for their own good.

How to Save Money and Avoid Temptations – Money Saving Tips

Most of the time, you may be motivated to save money but there are times when temptations come your way and before you know it, you have already spent the amount that was supposed to be added to your savings account. Here are some helpful tips on how you can avoid temptations and be able to save money:

1. Try hard to avoid those things that keep you from saving. If you are fond of buying shoes even if you don’t really need them, try very hard to stay away from them. Keep yourself away from shoe stores so that you will not be tempted to buy one.

2. When going to grocery stores, always bring the exact amount and bring with you a grocery list. If you have limited money in your pocket when in grocery stores, you will be forced to buy only those important things that you need.Preparing a grocery list will also help you get organized and will help you in deciding the things that need to be prioritized. Learning to save money on groceries is easy with a bit of self discipline.

3. Go to the malls only when needed. Do not go shopping if you do not need anything important to buy. Window-shopping will only tempt you to buy the dress you saw in the boutique even if you don’t really need it.

4. Do not bring with you your credit cards all the time. Having a credit card cash in your pocket will only tempt you to buy things that are not necessary. Quick access to money is not a good thing. If it is not available to spend this will also help you lower your balances and have a good credit score.

5. You may want to save money in the bank or invest in term deposits. You will not be tempted to get money from the bank every time you need cash, if they are placed in a time deposit account.

6. You may also want to consider consulting a financial adviser. There are a lot of programs that offer these services for free. They may be able to help you and give you advice on how you can avoid temptations and save more money

There is certainly no frequent flyer program that can be universally considered as “the best.” Frequent flyer programs each have different features that are beneficial. However, some features may be beneficial to one person and useless to the next. Their benefit depends on each individual’s lifestyle. Since each person has different preferences, each will seek a program that tailors their needs. This article will cover the most important considerations and explain how to choose the best program on an individual basis.

1. Mileage Expiration
This is the most important part of choosing a mileage program for anyone who doesn’t travel frequently. As of current, the airline industry will not allow any program to let miles expire for at least three years after the last activity. For those who fly often enough that this will not be a concern, this part of a mileage program won’t matter. Those who travel less frequently should seek a “no expiration” plan or a program that has a more lengthy limit of time. Discount airlines tend to have the most unfriendly policies toward travellers who fly less than two times each year.

2. Air Travel Perks
For those who must travel several times each month, it is best to seek a program that has good rewards for travel. Some rewards offer free services, such as a free checked bag, free or lowered-rate upgrades to a higher seating class or special consideration when flying standby. Travellers who make multiple trips each month may elect to sign up for the highest reward program, which is usually the “gold” program with any airline. This will usually grant them a higher earning for miles during each trip. It will also afford them the opportunity to have access to first-class lounges, as well as other airlines’ lounges. Travellers who choose this option will never be bumped from a flight if it is oversold and full. While few airlines make a practice of it today, a few elite reward programs allow members to purchase emergency seating on a sold-out flight, bumping a non-reward holder to another flight. For those who must travel several times each month for business, this is an excellent plan to have, as it will always guarantee a seat in case of an emergency.

3. Non-Air Travel Perks
Some airlines offer another type of reward program that accumulates mileage points through other means of travel, such as staying at hotels, renting cars or dining. Most programs cover an extensive list of dining venues, which gives foodies and frequent diners the option to accumulate points quickly. In these programs, it is best to seek one that matches personal needs best. For example, a traveler who flies several times each month should be sure the air-travel rewards are optimal over the dining rewards. However, travellers who fly less than 5 times each year, but eat out several times each week, should consider a program that yields the best dining rewards.

After considering each of these things, it is best to choose the program that has the most attractive benefits that will actually be utilised. Make a list of each one and weigh out the advantages and disadvantages of each, based on personal preferences and travel frequency. Another important thing to consider is which airlines have the most steady business. It is true that any airline could be sold out or fold under at any time, but it is always better to choose an airline that has a solid history. Reviewing industry reports is the best way to gauge this decision. Discount airlines are generally the first ones to be sold out. When airlines merge, the rewards programs don’t always move, so keep that in mind also.

3. Financial aids

These are good alternative sources for your children to start off on their college education. But as a parent, you would not want to fall in those long lines for financial aid or let your child work himself to death just to have money for tuition and other expenses.

Here are some ways on how you can have a jump start at shaving off those hard-earned bucks for your child’s college education:

1. The earlier, the better.

Start investing your money as soon as your child is born. First, put the savings or investments under your name. Later on, decide whether you want to transfer the account to your child’s name by the time he or she turns 15. This way, you will have minimal taxes, if at all.

However, you need to be careful when transferring account names. Some states require a total turnover of funds once your child turns 18 or 21. This is also ineffective if, in the future, you apply for financial aid. Also remember that tuition fees 10 or 15 years from now may double or even triple the current rates.

2. Establish a trust fund for your child.

This is a very wise plan for a child’s parents or relatives to invest in. A trust fund is similar to a time-deposit where the money will be given to your child after a certain number of years. After the designated time, the fund may be received in one lump sum or through an installment basis. When building up a trust fund, check out details like the interest rates, taxes and withdrawal restrictions.

All in all, you need to approximate the costs of tuition fees, dorm room, meals, books, and other expenses that may come up. Make sure that you invest money wisely as your child grows. By the time that there are only two or three years to go before you send your son or daughter off to college, “lock” an ample amount of the funds by investing them in low-risk bonds to ensure that you will get to have enough for them to start their college education.
