For most people insurance is a necessity. Whether for the car, the home, your health or even your life, insurance is a monthly expense that is non-negotiable in most cases. The average person might see hundreds of ad each week on the television, and hear just as many on the radio. Each insurance company wants to have as many customers as possible, and often tries to do that by offering discounts on bundling policies. Essentially, this means that the customer will receive a reduced rate if they get their home, care, life, health and even car insurance all from one business. While this is a great idea in theory, it is important to make sure that a multiple insurance policy discount is actually saving you money.

Get Quotes

The only way to tell if you can save money with a multiple insurance policy discount is by asking for quotes from a wide range of insurance companies. Be sure to ask what the individual rates are for car, home and health insurance, and then ask for the overall price if you bundle the insurance together. Get a few quotes from a range of companies, so you have plenty to compare later on.

Compare The Rates for Each Company

Sit down and take a look at the rates provided by one individual company. Add up what your monthly costs would be if you paid for their car insurance policy, their home insurance policy and their health insurance policy separately. Then, compare that to the price given for bundling those policies together. Make sure that there is a significant difference between the prices to ensure that you are really saving money. Some companies will offer a percentage reduction for each policy you add, which is a great way to know that you are truly saving money.

Paying for Convenience

Sometimes, it will be more expensive to have all your policies bundled with one insurance company. Many people don’t mind the slight increase in price thanks to the convenience of having all policies with one company, or even one bill at the end of the month. However, if price is your main concern then be sure to stick with the cheapest policies, no matter what. This might mean that you get each insurance policy from a separate company.

Family Discounts

Some married couples or extended family can actually save money by combining their insurance plans. If you have multiple cars on separate insurance policies, ask each company if they can offer you a discount by bringing your spouse into the plan. Many companies consider this to qualify for a multiple insurance policy discount, which can further save you money.

While many advertising ploys are used to encourage consumers to bundle their insurance policies for their cars, home and health, it is not always the best way to save money. Ask for plenty of quotes and compare the deals to make sure that the multiple insurance policy discount will in fact save you money in the long run.

With a struggling economy, many banks, financial institutions and lenders are more reluctant to give money to borrowers even with good credit. Many consumers who want to make extra money outside of their usual employment or those unemployed looking to make their own job, may feel they limited options in funding a business. If you have bad credit, been turned down by the bank or are seeking alternative options, the following suggestion may give you additional ideas:

Peer-to-Peer Lending: Also known as P2P, this option is available for those with various credit backgrounds. The better your credit history, the more likely you’ll qualify. There are several online websites that allow people to loan money to other people. Basically, you’re obtaining a loan with dealing with a bank. Depending on the amount you want to borrow, one or more people may contribute to it while everyone agrees to terms on how to repay the loan. Loan seekers may obtain a loan up to $25,000.

Borrowing from Family and Friends: While these people have known you longer than anyone else, at the same time, many are reluctant to ask family and friends since financial issues have been known to strain relationships. But if everyone involved can be responsible and honest under the circumstances, it can be an effective solution. While many may discuss the need for business funding with friends and family first, some may not ask before asking the bank. There are websites available to help you create an agreement for your loan.

Tapping into Retirement: Many financial experts are not too fond of the idea of touching retirement funds early, but with good reason. Unfortunately, more people are getting to retirement age only to be still working because they didn’t have enough saved. If you plan to retire, you’ll have to review this option carefully. There are penalties if you obtain access to the funds early. Some people are able to use a portion of the retirement funds with other funding to help their money stretch. Using retirement funds may not be a bad suggestion if you want to start a small business after you retire to stay active.

Seller Financing: This is more of a business-for-sale transaction that has the buyer willing to finance part of the business. Part of the sale is done in cash with a promissory note drawn for the buyer to repay the remaining amount. A seller-financed business helps offset upfront costs and likely gives more access to funds to those turned down for traditional funding.

Starting a business on a budget

If you want to start a business and you have very little capital, bear in mind that statistics show that 80% of small

businesses fail in the first 5 years. There are many reasons given, the main one being that a lot of new business

owners do not have enough capital to keep their business afloat.

My advice is to start with the basics, and as the money comes in, put it back into the business. You can start off

from home or a mobile service. This saves paying rent for a shop. Use all the free government assistance

available for small business. Look up on Google ‘Business Enterprise Centers’ and find one in your area. They

offer courses in Marketing, Budgeting for a Business and Strategies to Improve Profit. You will find like minded

people at these courses that you can network with, and who knows, they may need your business services in the

future.

For extremely cheap business cards, pamphlets and sometimes offers of freebies, try Vista Print an American

based company. Do your research first, because if there is somewhere cheaper locally, its obviously a better

option and keeps the money in Australia. However, when you first start out you are always going to take the

cheapest price.

cheap business cards

There is also a government program called NEISS especially designed to help people start a new business. If you

are accepted for this program, they will pay you a fortnightly allowance, which works out the same as Job

Search, and you will not have to look for a job whilst on the program. This allows you to concentrate on building

up your business, and at the same time gives you the peace of mind with a small income. The program only lasts

for a year and after that you are on your own. There are a few conditions whilst on this program, like taking out

insurance for the business and having to keep a profit and loss spreadsheet.

It is a fantastic way to learn how to run a business, whilst being paid and not having to look for work, and at the

same time being supported by the government. Another site for helping you in business from the Australian Goverment is http://www.business.gov.au .

You need to start small. Have the basic equipment and a small quantity of stock. It’ll be trial in error to begin

with, but you won’t lose too much money if some of your stock doesn’t sell. Marketing is very important and can

be expensive. So word of mouth is the cheapest and most effective way of going about it. Another free marketing

strategy is your local newspaper or television station. They may be looking to interview people starting out in a

new business venture. All you have to do is ring them up and let them know you are about to start up a unique

business and ask if they would be interested in promoting it.

A friend of mine was starting up a bead business. She called Brisbane Extra who agreed to call at her home and

film an interview with her that later appeared on TV, thus promoting her business for free. The same goes with

your local newspaper. Take the initiative now and who knows you could have a thriving business in the very near

future.

How successful your business might end up depends upon your marketing strategy. Making people aware of your existence in the market requires a promotional product campaign. Promotional products usually used are pens, mugs, t-shirts, key chains, and others. They are used to deliver your message to the audience about your product or your organization.

When you start a promotional campaign one thing you must be is patient, as the results might not be as early as you might think. The promotional items should be given as a gift or at a very low price, as the person who is buying it will be doing you a favor. Almost everyone loves a gift and will result in a positive feedback from the customer and might lead him/her to recommend your business to others. This always happens no matter how or what type of promotional product a customer receives. You can give away a promotional item at the end of a purchase or you can offer a buy one and get two items free deal.

If you have organized an expo or a launching conference you can give away mugs or pens to people in attendance or you can ask them for their email ids for future promotions. You can also give away promotional products to your employees such as t-shirts or notepads or wall clocks to promote your brand name. They will also feel proud working in an organization they are promoting.

Over the years, statistics and studies have shown that giving away promotional items is not only a great way to gain a customer base but it also helps to strengthen employee loyalty. When you give gifts to your staff, they feel more and more like a part of the team and gives them more drive and determination and creates a positive atmosphere within the organization. And at the same time, whenever the staff wears clothing items with the company name and logo on them, they are marketing your business.

Promotional products help you achieve your marketing goals for a long time. Pens circulate from one person to another, coffee mugs either at your home or your office desk will be serving its marketing purposed as long as it is used.

Clocks in offices, homes or other place will be seen by anyone working or moving past the place, magnets on refrigerators are also a similar item but are not watched as often as a clock. All in all, each and every time your promotional item is seen, your business will be advertised and a step towards your marketing goal will be taken. The customer will remember your name and the message (if any) advertised by the item and might be able to help their friends or others give information about your company and its services.

Once these promotional products are distributed successfully, their advertising message can last for years. In today’s highly competitive market a promotional campaign offers a unique opportunity to get your organization’s name out to its target market.

A solid foundation is necessary when starting a business. You have to be fully prepared for the endeavor before you actually establish your venture. To ensure success, you need to acquire knowledge about marketing and business planning. Finance is another business aspect you should master. Part of it is taking out business loans, which could be considered as your lifeline especially during dire times.
You would surely need money to startup and continue your business. Your current capital may be insufficient that you need additional funds to pursue your endeavor. Different banks and loan providers across Australia are presently offering various business loans for different types of borrowers. Thus, you could make sure cash flow for your business would be easy and smooth. Here are some of the most common types of business loans available.

Starting up and property financing

Your business surely needs a jumpstart. Start-up financing loan is one of several business loans that are available specifically for small and startup entrepreneurs. Many banks offer and provide such business loans. Logically, startup financing is designed and provided to help a business launch and begin its operations.
Meanwhile, if you need to buy a property where you could build or put up a facility or commercial space, you may opt to apply for business property financing. Many financial institutions currently offer mortgage of any commercial space. Those offer higher flexibility particularly in terms of loan period and payment. This is one of the bigger business loans usually applied for by businesses.

Growth, inventory, and trade financing

There are specific business loans for businesses that need additional capital to go on. Business growth financing is for you if your business is growing at a stable and regular pace. The loan amount could be used to purchase necessary equipments to improve and enlarge the business production process so customers’ and operational needs could be delivered.

Inventory financing is the specific business loan that is aimed at ensuring that there are enough products to actually sell to customers. Just like other business loans, it could be used to buy materials that are necessary for providing specific services to clients. It could be used for effective management of supplies for meeting demands of target market.

Trade financing loan provides capital so you could get into importing, exporting, or domestic trading. This could be among the biggest business loans you could avail. However, lenders could be stricter in processing applications.

Business loans for buying equipment and tools

You could buy huge industrial equipments that could make your production facility more operational. Equipment and tools financing is the best business loan for this purpose. Purchasing big equipments is common for large corporations. If your business is a startup or small, you may consider buying your own production equipments rather than renting those.

Lastly, if your business needs more vehicles for transporting equipments and goods, motor vehicle financing is for you.

I recently sold a part of a business in Queensland, Australia and the business name and all the major details remained mine. I needed to cancel a few different registrations and licences and one of them was the workers compensation I was paying to cover the employees I had.

It was a lightly staffed business and the full years fee for the workers compensation was around $350. Anyway I rang to cancel the policy one month into the year, so I assumed I would pay for one month coverage. But no, this way too easy.

Workers compensation minimum fee for a year is $250 so that’s what I have to pay…When I heard this I was more than shocked. What an absolute rip off to a small business owner. I consider this a crime and there could be no reason to take $250 from a person when you are not giving them anything in return.

I may as well pay the yearly fee and go out and employ more people. That’s how mad I am about this.

At the moment I feel like the government can charge you any fee they like and if you do not pay it, you are the criminal.

Just because you’re looking to increase your productivity, doesn’t mean you’re going to have to work harder. There are plenty of ways to cut your work load, increase your output, and not stress yourself out in the process. But sometimes these productivity hacks can be harder to spot than you might imagine. It could be that because you have become so rutted in your daily habits that you have lost some of your ability to see that productivity-enhancing techniques are right in front of you. If that’s the case, here are a few tips that may help you increase your efficiency while not increasing your workload.

1. Find Your Time Niche

There are typically certain parts of the day when we find ourselves most energized and effective at our work. One of the best ways to increase your productivity is to look for the time of day when you are most productive and then utilize that time to tackle the most difficult or time consuming tasks of your day.

2. Beat the Masses

Sometimes it isn’t our work habits or routine that slows us down, but those around us. Our co-workers, while they might be well intentioned, can often be quite distracting and killers of our productivity. Consider coming in early or staying late depending on what works best for your schedule. While it might seem that you are working more initially, by spending an additional quarter to half an hour of intense, uninterrupted time at work, you may be able to cut hours off your week.

3. Call Cover

Incoming calls can be annoying and incredibly distracting when it comes to your productivity. Even a short 30-second long phone call can cut into whatever you were doing and totally pull your mind away from your work. Depending on the reason for the call, it can take time to re-focus upon the task at hand or you may find yourself completely drawn away from your work to handle another situation. When you find yourself in a productivity groove and if your job allows, consider forwarding your calls directly to voicemail until a more opportune time to deal with them presents itself.

4. Ease Your Emails

Often, emails can be just as distracting, if not more so than phone calls. Similar to handling your messages and phone calls, look for slower times during the day to deal with your emails when you aren’t feeling as productive. And if you are in a job that doesn’t call for immediate action regarding emails, consider avoiding those instant alerts informing you of non-essential emails, which can be distracting and diminish your productivity.

5. Efficient and Effective Emails

When you respond to emails, look for ways to limit the amount of time and words you use to communicate on matters of lesser importance. While you don’t want to seem short with people, remember that they don’t need a novel written on matters of relative simplicity. Shortening email responses can increase productivity on both the sender and receiver’s side.

6. Take Work to Meetings

You don’t want to look bad in front of the boss or appear as if you’re not paying attention when you attend meetings, but sometimes taking work along with you can be productive. When you find yourself sitting there before the meeting begins, waiting for a late arrival or taking a 15-minute break halfway through the meeting, you can use these times to get a little work done and increase your productivity.

7. List It

Utilizing lists can be a huge time saver. All the fancy, technological gadgets in the world may not be as useful to helping you stay organized as a few sticky notes or a desktop calendar. These cheap and handy items can be your best friends when it comes to helping you stay organized, productive, and chop away those wasted minutes.

8. Know Your Limits

We all have our limits when it comes to productivity. At the end of the day, do you sometimes find yourself sitting there just staring at your computer? At times like these, it’s good to know when to call it quits. When you push yourself past reasonable limits at work, you may find that even though you are producing, your productivity is actually suffering due to critical errors you make while turning out poor work that may have to be redone.

9. Take a Break

Not working might seem like an odd way to increase productivity, but sometimes your mind needs a chance to recuperate. A short walk to get your blood pumping, a quick snack, even a change of atmosphere can help you refresh yourself when your brain doesn’t seem to be functioning at peak efficiency.

10. Ditch the Distractions

When it comes to distractions, it doesn’t have to be co-workers, emails or your office phone that can lower your productivity. Radios in the office, the internet, cell phones, even a window can take away from your work. Consider removing radios, turning cell phones off, placing user restrictions on the internet, and keeping window shades closed except during breaks. You don’t want a completely sterile environment but work is work and productivity is important.

Businesses that are making more than enough money ignore the areas where savings can be made. They are often too busy to think about saving a mere dollar here and there. In this case you should delegate. You could almost employ someone like me just to do this job and I guarantee that I could pay my own wages with the savings.
Here are some of my money saving tips for a business

Reduce waste. You would be amazed at what staff call rubbish. Do not let them decide what to throw out because they do no care. People are very careless and wasteful with items that they did not personally pay for.

Organised roster – Overstaffing accounts for a huge waste of money in almost every business. Its all about knowing your business and understanding what is needed.

Offer staff a chance to buy your product wholesale plus costs to reduce theft. Make your staff feel like they are privileged and let them have an unbelievable discount, therefore increasing the guilt factor if they do decide to steel something. The item was so cheap anyway!

Ask your bank for a discount on merchant fees. If they say that they cannot do this then try another bank. After you have a few firm quotes in hand go back to your bank and see if they can beat it. Try and stay with the same bank, as changing can cause delays and problems that your business can’t afford! A small discount of 1% on merchant fees can add up to hundreds or even thousands of dollars in savings.

Hold a meeting with your staff and ask them for ideas on how to save your business some money. Give them an incentive. Shout the winner to out to lunch. This is a great way to get your employees to think hard and even sometimes realise what they are doing to waste money. You also get some great ideas to use and put to action.

Don’t keep staff on when they are not doing their job to your standard. This is the biggest waste of money. Half a good staff member is worth two of these ones in a bush, doing nothing. I cannot stand people that conveniently avoid actually doing anything too strenuous. This is just as bad as steeling, because they are blatantly accepting wages for doing nothing at all.

Monitor internet and phone usage in office situations. I must have spoken to at least 200 people over the years that use the bosses phone to call long distance relatives and friends. Most people also use work time to read emails and chat online. Just make sure you let everyone know that these are being monitored and then they cannot accuse you of spying or eaves dropping.

Office supply stock. It really pays to have an office supply manager that is responsible for ordering and distributing office supplies throughout the office. You would be surprised at what staff will take home and waste at work. Unnecessary or mistakes with printing can cost big dollars.

Employ your own computer geek. Do you know how much it is to pay a computer technician to fix a computer in your business. They cost a fortune. And everything is so much more expensive through them. I would hire a computer geek of my own. This way you know how much he costs because you already employ him. Computer geeks can usually do an array of other jobs as well.

Free Advertising. One of the best forms of free advertising is word of mouth. Don’t ever let a rood or uncaring staff member ruin you reputation. The customer is going to remember the business name, not the person who was rood to them in the first place. One bad word can turn into 20 lost customers.

Setup remote access for your staff. You would be amazed at how many people will complete work outside of working hours. Then they will be free for the next project.

I would love to here some of your ideas? There must be a million ways to save a dollar in business.
